Linda Dezijn: objects & becoming aware in felt
Through the process of free creation, my object develops into a piece of work in which a part of myself can be seen. I "read" my image, "play" and "move" with it and follow what I discover. I work from my emotion, which makes anything possible. Having the necessary space in which to create, is very important to me..
Teaching, passing on and sharing knowledge is an essential part of me. After teaching for many years, I decided to leave the profession and have been working in my own studio since 2005.
As a teacher, I think it is important that the quality of my lessons is paramount. But above all, I am a passionate teacher who coaches and inspires 'my' pupils with great pleasure and enthusiasm!
In my studio, I work on my own creations, run workshops and teach courses myself.
I get a lot of inspiration from nature. The fascinating and complex forms that I see during my walks in the forest every day are often (unconsciously) the start of making new work. I “just” start with something. Place colours and materials. "Image" emerges.

While working, nothing is wrong and I mainly leave the creative process in charge, so that there are opportunities for change and movement in my work.
When I create, I experience my passion, my fire and my drive. My "unconscious being" changes into Awareness. An inexhaustible source. Totally connected to myself. For me, this is freedom!

Course "Visual work with felt"
The continuous course "Visual work with felt" is meant for people who want to work experimentally and freely with felting wool. During these meetings, it is possible to work on your own ideas and interests. You can try all kinds of felting techniques. There is also plenty of room to work on large pieces of work (wall objects, clothing cut from one piece, etc.) You can also work with various materials related to felting as well as related techniques. Thes include the painting of wool and fabrics, printing photos on fabric, etc. In addition to learning techniques and experimenting with materials, the visual aspects and contents of your work are also taken into consideration.
When learning all sorts of different techniques while processing wool into a felt piece, we are often focused on the act of crafting itself. It is, after all, interesting and challenging to learn a new technique. Once we have learned a specific technique, we start looking for a new one.
You can also turn it around. You find a certain form or structure that you see, for example in nature, fascinating. You would like to reflect this form or structure in a "visual" work and start looking for ways to do this. Sometimes, you do have some idea of how to do this, but you do not know exactly how to process it visually. Then, it is valuable to be able to draw from all those different techniques you have learned. The techniques can then be the tool to express an "image" or "atmosphere".
Working hours: from 10.00 am - 4.00 pm Costs: 250.00 (for five sessions). Materials are not included in the price. You can bring these yourself or you can purchase them on the spot.
Dates spring 2018
Wednesday group: February 14th, March 14th, April 11th, May 9th, June 6th
Saturday group 1: February 17th, March 17th, April 14th, May 12th, June 16th
Saturday group 2: February 24th , March 31th, April 28th, June 9th, June 30th
The workshops I give are aimed at learning something "new". Such as getting acquainted with new materials, gaining skills, learning new techniques, etc. In addition, I also offer workshops in which the visual aspect is the primary focus and it is possible to work from, for example, a theme.
Natural artwork ( February 2th -3th)
Are you too fascinated by the beautiful colours and amazing structures that you encounter in nature? Then this workshop probably offers you a nice challenge. During the course, we look very specifically at the shape and build-up of structures and colours of "natural artwork" from the forest such as bark and moss. You then learn how, by stacking layers of wool and fibres (layering), folding, binding and cutting, these structures can be rendered into a sturdy piece of felt. You go home with a beautiful, unique, nature-inspired (wall) object.
Cost: € 150.00 (excluding material, guideline € 60.00)
Three-dimensional structures in felt ( March 2th – 3th)
During this two-day workshop, you will learn how to make structures and spatial forms in felt. A repetition and rhythm of forms such as hollow shapes, strip shapes, wafer shapes or scale-like shapes emerges visually. After creating several experimental samples, you will have the opportunity to further develop one of the techniques into a tapestry, or object of your choice.
Cost: € 150.00 (excluding materials of the workpiece, guideline € 70.00)
Forms and structures in the surface ( 21 April 20th – 21th)
Surface structures in felt can be displayed in many different ways. Just by felting wool into a silk fabric, a structure is created in the felt. The wool shrinks and the silk fabric is drawn together and starts to wrinkle.
During this workshop, you will learn various ways to fashion the most interesting surface structures by "playing" with wool and fabrics and then felting them. The following items are covered:
- "Covering pieces in fabric". You will learn to use, among other things, an opaque paint technique, to use "freezer paper" and tape.
- "Everything between two layers". All sorts of materials and ideas are provided with which you can obtain fascinating textures and structures when you felt materials between two layers of wool. You can also felt all sorts of things between wool and fabric to produce transparency, for example. The possibilities are endless.
- "Ripples and tying off"
- "Cutting and folding"
Cost: € 150.00 (materials not included, wool fibres, needle felt, fabrics, etc. guideline € 60.00)
Holiday course 2018 (July 31th - August 3th)
Four days of freely working with felt, pursuing your own interests. During this mini-holiday, it is possible to try all sorts of things to do with felting and related techniques. These include painting wool and silk, printing photos on fabrics, making three-dimensional structures in felt, creating a coat out of a piece of felt, felting fur, dyeing fabric, vertical felt etc. etc. The holiday week gives you the opportunity to work with the beautiful craft and art of felting at your own level. The holiday course is suitable for any level of felting, from novice right through to the most experienced. Cost: € 260.00 (materials not included, you can bring your own or purchase them from me). In Heerde and the surrounding area, there are various accommodation options. If desired, I can give you the contact details for local B&Bs (that have been recommended by previous course members).
* The day workshops start at 10 a.m. and end at around 4.30 p.m. * Coffee, tea and treats are provided. Please bring your own lunchbox * Around 12.30, we have a break where you can eat and relax * The costs of the workshop do not include materials for the workpieces (unless stated otherwise). You can purchase materials on site or bring your own * Groups of at least 4 people can also sign up for a workshop of their choice and arrange a date in consultation * After registration, all information concerning the workshop or course will be sent to your home address
